ICC reinstates Sri Lanka’s membership

Dubai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has lifted the ban imposed on the Sri Lanka Cricket Board.

“The ICC has been monitoring the situation since the suspension of the Sri Lankan board and is now satisfied that the Sri Lankan board is not in breach of membership obligations,” the ICC said in a statement.

The statement said that the International Cricket Council has lifted the ban imposed on Sri Lanka with immediate effect. The ICC suspended the membership of the Sri Lankan Cricket Board due to political interference.

The Sri Lankan Sports Minister dismissed the officials of the Sri Lankan Cricket Board for the embarrassing defeat against India in the World Cup match.

The ICC suspended Sri Lanka’s membership during the World Cup on 10 November 2023 due to continuous government interference in the board’s affairs.

Due to the suspension of membership, Sri Lanka missed out on hosting the Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, which is currently being played in South Africa.
